Douglas's Barn is one of our two romantic cottages for two in a stunning Peak Park setting. Not surprisingly it has Five Stars and an Enjoy England Gold Award. A beautifully restored and generously equipped 18C limestone barn conversion, it is equipped with everything you could possibly need for a perfect stress-free holiday for couples - or singles - of all ages wanting luxurious home comfort, peace and quiet somewhere safe and beautiful. It faces the sun on the edge of the Peak Park village of Parwich with wonderful walks right from the door yet it is only a few minutes' stroll into the heart of the village with its pub and small shop, church, tennis courts and bus stop. Chatsworth, Haddon, Tissingon, Bakewell, Carsington Water, the Manifold Valley and Dovedale are all within half an hour's drive.
Downstairs, the painted kitchen is beautifully equipped, with top of the range electric cooker and a great selection of kitchen implements just waiting to be appreciated by an enthusiastic cook. Discreetly hidden behind doors are a washing machine and separate tumble dryer. The sitting room, with an ultra comfy modern leather sofa, flat screen TV (with FreeSat), mini hi-fi with iPod player and remote control inset electric ‘fire’ also has a contemporary feel, but it does manage to be old-fashioned cosy at the same time. On the walls we have some delightful original paintings by local Derbyshire artist friends.
A cast iron spiral staircase takes you upstairs to a spacious bedroom. The bed with specially made Vi-spring mattress is slightly bigger/longer than a normal king size, and with no foot board so taller people find it particularly comfortable. There are rugs on the floor, a rocking chair and footstool, small colour TV and a portable digital radio nd plenty of books to read. There is a power shower over the en suite whirlpool bath.
Parwich is a typical small village in the Peak National Park. It nestles in a hollow well away from main roads and consists of limestone farms and higgledy piggledy houses and cottages. There is a church, a pub with small shop, a cricket ground, tennis courts and a bowling green. Parwich lies within a wonderful walking area and is close to many beauty spots and visitor attractions.
Our prices are fully inclusive: once you have paid the rent (and for your newspaper if you have ordered one) there will be nothing more to worry about. Our rates include all heating and lighting, bedlinen, towels and bath robes, bathroom and cleaning 'basics' that we provide and kitchen store cupboard provisions. These include a loaf of bread, half a dozen fresh eggs from a local farm, a pint of milk and some butter to start you off, not forgetting the welcome tea tray with freshly home made cake or biscuits. In the summer you'll even find a jug of fresh herbs from the garden.
There are some excellent pubs and restaurants in the area, and if you don't want to move from your cosy retreat, our next door neighbour will cook a pre-ordered meal for you and bring it to the door.
"This is a truly idyllic location and we loved everything about Douglas’s Barn."
