'Les Alpes D'Azur', were formerly the 'Albergo Americano', an 1882 Italian inn on the French border. They overlook Place de Nice, the main square in La Brigue, and have stunning mountain views. There are three apartments, each of which has been renovated, modernised and fully equipped.
Apartment Three is in the ‘grenier’ or attic on the third floor. It has three bedrooms, two with doubles and one with bunk beds. There is a large and sunny living/dining/kitchen room with a sofa bed. One bathroom. Wooden floors. Electric hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine. Apartment Three overlooks the square and has mountain views.
La Brigue is located in the Vallee de la Roya, which runs north from Ventimiglia into the Alps above Tende. Due to its location in an east-west side valley, which follows the course of the River Levense, La Brigue is one of the sunniest villages in the area. It also avoids the traffic on the main road two kilometres away. It nevertheless has a bustling life of its own.La Brigue was Italian until local residents voted in a plebiscite to become French. Street names are Italian and local language and culture are French mixed with Italian.
La Brigue lies right at the edge of the Mercantour. This beautifully rugged national park has wonderful paths, streams and lakes set in the valleys of 3000 meter-high mountains. There are wonderful flowers, some interesting wildlife and lots of pre-history cave paintings. You can be on the ski slopes in Italy in just 25 minutes, at the seaside in 50, and there is walking, climbing, rafting and canyoning on the doorstep.
