Montelandi is a typical Sienese villa set in 14 acres of woodland above the Via Cassia, the old pilgrim road from Siena to Rome, in the Brunello di Montalcino wine region.
It is a family home, private, peaceful and little changed for generations. The villa developed from a farmhouse or wine fattoria many hundreds of years old when it became the summer residence of the Crocchi, the principal family of the region.
The hilltop location offers privacy, great views, a pool and a beautiful garden.
The old farmhouse kitchen is fully equipped, with a breakfast table to seat 12 and an open fireplace for log fires in autumn and winter. There is a second kitchen downstairs leading out onto the garden terrace with long tables for al fresco dining to seat 20.
A comfortably furnished large living room, marble floored, with beamed ceiling and hooded Tuscan fireplace, has doors leading onto a covered loggia.
There is a mixture of double and twin bedded rooms with additional single beds or sofa beds in some rooms. There are six modern bathrooms with showers.
The swimming pool is 32 ft by 16 ft with steps at the shallow end and has its own terrace away from the front gardens, looking South towards Monte Amiata.
For children there are swings and a paddling pool and a games room with a table tennis table
The semi circular front garden gives a panoramic view of the Val D’Arbia and from the terrace we look across the valley to Montalcino, the little town famous throughout the world for its ‘Brunello di Montalcino’.
The local market town is Buonconvento, a medieval walled town with good shops, restaurants and cafes. It has a weekly market on Saturdays and an interesting art gallery in a Liberty style villa near the Town Hall.
You can book Montelandi as a four bedroom house for up to eight or with six bedrooms for up to twelve. Or you can book for any number up to sixteen (eight bedrooms). Outside the main season there is a self contained two bedroom apartment on the ground floor.
