Essential Travel

Architect-designed and completed in 2000, Roscaragh is set in an acre of land a few hundred yards from the end of a quiet country lane leading to the sea. One and a half miles outside the village of Glenbeigh and standing on the headland between Dingle Bay and the Caragh River; from here you can look out on Dingle Bay, hear the curlews and oystercatchers on the sands and watch the sun set over Mount Brandon.

Roscaragh combines the traditional and the modern. Communicating living, dining and kitchen areas and large windows and french doors give views to the sea from all parts of the house. The centre-piece is the high-ceilinged living room with windows on three sides, wooden roof trusses and a large stone fireplace. Look down into the living room from the galleried landing and out to sea through the glazed roof panels. The floors are of wood, slate or terracotta and the furnishing is comfortable and traditional, much of it hand-made and painted specifically for this house. There are four bedrooms (two double, two twin) , three bathrooms (one en suite) Central Heating and satellite TV.

Roscaragh is one and a half miles outside the village of Glenbeigh on the south side of Dingle Bay, one of south west Ireland's spectacular west-facing bays on the Atlantic coast. It stands on the headland of the Caragh River estuary and looks out onto Dingle Bay and Rossbeigh Strand, a three-mile long sand spit at the end of which, according to legend, is the land of eternal youth - Tir na Nog. If eternal youth is not for you, you can swim from the Blue Flag beach or walk in the sand dunes instead.
